Where to grab a drink & happy hour

The Adams Boulevard corridor has quietly become one of the city's best dinner-and-drinks strips. It leans more toward serious cocktails and patio dinners than cheap happy-hour deals, but there are good early-evening options. A note on timing: most of these spots do not publish fixed happy-hour windows, and the ones that do change them often, so the details below reflect what each currently offers. A quick call is always the surest way to catch a deal.

Full bar

Alta Adams & Adams Wine Shop

Chef Keith Corbin's Michelin-recognized California soul food, a serious seasonal cocktail program, and a string-lit back patio that is one of the loveliest in the neighborhood. Regulars have noted an early-evening happy hour at the bar, but the kitchen recently relaunched its menu, so confirm current happy-hour timing when you go. Next door, the team's Adams Wine Shop pours by the glass (Tuesday to Sunday, until around 7pm) and spotlights women and BIPOC winemakers, a perfect low-key pre-dinner stop.

The Bar at Johnny's West Adams

The corridor's real drinks-and-dancing room. Grab a basic beer at the walk-up pastrami window, or head inside The Bar at Johnny's for craft cocktails, DJs spinning vinyl, and dance nights. Open daily and late, with a fire-pit courtyard. No standing happy hour is posted, so check their events calendar for what is on.

Cento Pasta Bar & Cento Raw Bar

Some of the best pasta in the city next door to one of the most beautiful new rooms in America, an oyster-shell-inspired raw bar with showstopping seafood towers and inventive, club-era cocktails. Walk-ins only, and it gets busy, so arrive early. This is a destination-cocktail spot rather than a deals spot; no happy hour is posted.

Farmhouse Kitchen Thai

Maximalist, party-ready Thai with neon-pink lighting, a giant back patio, and colorful cocktails served in foot-high novelty crowns. Built for a group night out. Listings show that it offers a happy hour, so call ahead for the current window and specials.

Beer & wine

Mizlala West Adams

Bright, casual Mediterranean with a build-your-own pickle bar and a covered garden patio strung with stained glass and candles. Counter service, beer and wine only, no full bar and no formal happy hour, but an easy spot for a relaxed glass on the patio any night of the week.

Open daily, 11am to 10pm

The honest bottom line. West Adams is a dinner-and-cocktails neighborhood more than a happy-hour-deals one. Alta Adams and Farmhouse Kitchen are your best bets for an actual happy hour, the bar at Johnny's is the spot for a real night out, and Adams Wine Shop is the easiest low-key glass. Always call to confirm current times.
